 POSITION SUMMARY: Promotes proper image of Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance. Investigates, evaluates, negotiates and concludes all claims assigned in a prompt, fair, courteous and professional manner. Supports the Company, and the Manager, P&C regarding all established guidelines and procedures.

 REPORTING/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports directly to the Unit Claims Coordinator from whom overall work direction is received. Also receives work direction from the Manager, P&C, Claims Coordinators or Claims Specialists. ROLES AND


Provides fair, prompt and courteous claims service. Adheres to established Company guidelines and procedures. Monitors all assigned claims and keeps them updated and properly reserved. Discusses potential serious losses with Claims Manager/Unit Claims Coordinator. Stay current and adheres to all laws pertaining to claims settlements.

Completes all tasks for assigned claims following specific guidelines in accordance with good faith claims handling and the P&C Claims Best Practices. Prepares appraisals, appropriate to skill level, on selected claims. Secures and maintains proper file requirements and documents all transactions completed.

Establishes and promotes good working relationship with all Company divisions.

Establishes positive public relations with insureds, claimants and the general public through professional conduct and appearance.

Properly maintains all Company issued equipment and maintains updated assigned manuals.

Maintains a positive educational program to stay professionally current with the insurance and repair industries.

Assists in taking losses when needed, and provides assistance to other claims personnel when needed.

Performs other duties as assigned by Management, including but not limited to, working catastrophe duty, participating in round table discussions, and assisting with customer concerns.


 Education: Requires a High School diploma or GED equivalent. College degree preferred but not required.

 Experience: Requires previous work experience that would have provided exposure to working with people, resolving conflicts and completing assignments under limited direction required. Prior field claims handling experience preferred.

 Knowledge / Skills: Requires skills in attentive and active listening; patience to hear people out and the ability to restate the opinions of others even when he/she disagrees. Demonstrated multifaceted oral and written communication skills specific to creating and fostering a learning environment that focuses on customer service and its continuous improvement. Requires good grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation and proofreading skills. Requires excellent telephone communication skills.

Requires knowledge of Companies' organizational structure, general philosophy, personnel policies, and operating methods and procedures and consistently project the professional and proper Company image and philosophy in dealing with people and maintain appropriate confidentiality/discretion.

Must have emotional maturity and demonstrated patience / understanding due to heavy customer contact; the need to remain calm and react quickly under pressure is essential.

Must have the ability to set own priorities; exercise initiative and judgment in making independent decisions within the scope of assigned authority; and substantiate these decisions.

Must demonstrate organizational abilities.

Requires the ability to work the number of hours needed to complete job requirements.

Must acquire the ability to effectively utilize computer systems required for essential job functions

Requires the visual capability to effectively operate the computer system. Familiarity with computer keyboard functions is required.

INS, AIC, and CPCU designations strongly recommended, but not required.

Requires a valid Indiana drivers’ license.
